Half-shrubs
or shrubs with thick and fleshy stems, rarely tuberous or spiny,
usually evergreen. Simple leaves, laminas obovate or cordate to
reniform and plamately veined, sometimes glaucous. Five petals are
equally colored, flowers usually almost regular, never scented, with
hypanthium longer than pedicel. Fertile stamens 5-7, upper two very
short.
